Looking after you fixed appliance
Getting used to your appliance
At first your appliance may be uncomfortable making eating and speaking difficult. This will only last a few days. If small metal parts or the wires scratch your cheek, place some wax (that we have provided) over the sharp points.
Cleaning
Keep your appliance and teeth clean to prevent tooth decay and periodontal disease. Special attention should be paid to the areas around the gum margins and the small metal attachments. (Toothbrush, interdental brush with a single tuft, dental floss, superfloss and fluoride toothpaste can be used).
Eating
Avoid sticky foods, especially chewing gum. Cut your food into small pieces before chewing and avoid hard food.
Wearing elastics and headgear
If you are told to wear elastics or headgear, please wear them exactly the way you were instructed and for the time indicated, otherwise your treatment time will be delayed.
Troubles
If the appliance hurts (not only uncomfortable), to a point where you cannot tolerate it, or if any attachment is loose or broken, do not wait for your next appointment. Call the dentist during working hours and tell us your problems. A special appointment will be given to you.
(Please keep and bring back the loose attachment).
If you miss an appointment
Please contact us as soon as possible. Your appliance needs adjusting at intervals of about four weeks.
Your appointment card
Don‘t forget your appointment card. To avoid confusion bring your card every time.
